Daily Skin Routine for Men

Many guys start treating their skin only when they have a specific issue — acne, wrinkles, or other typical skin care issues, however, a daily skin care routine will not only prevent these in the first place, but leave you with a clean, firm, energized face that’s wrinkle and blemish-free – and it’s never too late to start! Here’s how…

Skin Type

First off the bat, you need to learn which of the 5 basic skin types you have so that you can choose the right products for you skin care regime: normal skin, which stays oil free most of the day and doesn’t get dry or irritated; oily skin, which has oily patches and is prone to acne; dry/sensitive skin, which often gets irritated, tight and dry; a combination skin, where you have an oily area from your forehead to the tip of the nose, but the rest is dry or sensitive; or an aging skin, where you look weathered, wrinkled, or have age spots.

 Skin Care Regime

1. Cleanse

Cleanse with a men’s facial cleanser made for your skin type in the morning and night before you shower with warm water and then wash off with cool water and pat dry. Cleansing will remove dead skin and impurities in the morning and before bed, will remove oil and other pore-clogging bacteria.

2. Scrub

Depending on your skin type, scrubbing (or exfoliating) with a men’s face scrub should be done 1 – 3 times a week in the morning after cleansing. Wet your face with warm water, use a small amount of product, rub your nose, forehead, and neck in gentle circles, and pat dry. It removes dead skin cells and prevents clogged pores and breakouts. Scrub before you shave — it preps your skin by revealing as much hair as possible resulting in a smoother shave, preventing bumps and ingrown hairs.

3. Hydrate

In the morning and at night, after washing or scrubbing your face, it is very important to hydrate or moisturize with a small amount of product —even if you have an oily skin. Moisturizing prevents water loss, has an anti-aging effect, and firms the skin.

4. Prevention

They say prevention is better than the cure, so make sure that you fight the aging process by using an SPF (sunscreen). Also, invest in an eye cream to prevent bags, puffiness, and dark circles caused by insufficient sleep. Finally, use an anti-aging cream at night if you’re concerned about small wrinkles and lines.

Last, but not least, skin care doesn’t need to be complicated, but it’s important to stick with your routine. The key to a great looking skin is consistency!
